A call on a screen that ends with something decided

You want somebody on a screen this month, and you want the hour to finish on a decision rather than on a tour of software you'll never open again.

A screen is a fair thing to ask for

The company is wherever you are, the records are already online, and the drive was never the part that added anything. Asking for the meeting to happen on a screen isn't settling for less, it's just removing the bit that was never doing any work.

What does matter is whether the hour has an agenda before it starts and a decision at the end. A call without either of those is a demonstration, and a demonstration is a thing you sit through rather than a thing you buy.

A dashboard is not the meeting

Software can show you last month faster than any human can, and that is genuinely useful. It still won't tell you what to do about what it's showing, and the gap between those two is where the hour earns its place.

So the agenda goes out before the call, the numbers are read rather than displayed, and the call ends on a sentence you could repeat to a business partner.

Who is actually on the screen

The screen is a delivery method. The thing being delivered is a seat. A Tax CFO is the controller and CFO seat for an owner-run business with the tax work inside it, so the books, the return and the plan come from one desk and the October number is decided before the year ends.

Breadth is that the person reading your month is the one who'll prepare the return it lands in, so nothing gets decided on the call that falls over in March. Height is the October conversation, which is the one where the year is still yours to change.

What to send before a first call

One line about the decision you want made. That's what the agenda gets built from, and it's also the fastest way to find out whether an hour on a screen is worth your money this month.

A login is not a license

A call that ends on one decision is ordinary work, and the person on the screen holds no CPA license. A signed audit, review, compilation or assurance report belongs at another desk, and you'll be told that while the agenda is still on the screen rather than after an invoice. Payday stays on a provider you own and run. The full limit is on the disclosures page.
